Project Description

Proof is a wine-centric restaurant serving Modern American cuisine in the heart of Washington, DC. The menu showcases the best local, organic and sustainable ingredients in clean, beautiful preparations, as well as an extensive international selection of cheese and charcuterie.

The contemporary space blends old world charm and modern panache, as exposed brick walls, a custom French pewter bar, Jerusalem stone, and antique Chinese chests mingle seamlessly with wide-plank walnut floors, Bisazza tiled bathrooms, Italian leather seating and European lighting fixtures. In a nod to its neighbor, the National Portrait Gallery and Smithsonian American Art Museum, Proof rotates hundreds of images from the museum's collection on four flat-screen plasma monitors positioned above the bar. Additional striking design details include splashes of bright pink in the ladies room and sensual black and white nude portraits in the men’s room. In the dining room, see-through racks of wine double as dividers, espresso-colored leather booths create cocoons of privacy, and brick walls are accented with copper-framed round mirrors.
